MY FIRST EVER PUMPKIN PIE | MY FIRST EVER PUMPKIN PIE – The Love Notes Blog
It’s a crisp 54 degrees outside which means Fall has arrived!
Being that I grew up in Florida where there’s no such thing as Fall,
I now have a deep appreciation for the changing colors of this season (:
Ok, so Fall is here. Now what? I’ll tell you what. Pumpkin Pie!! I really wanted to make a pumpkin pie entirely from scratch instead of from a can. But it turns out my local grocery store does not carry the right pumpkin/squash for pie-making. SAD!! I felt so defeated. I could have driven all over town searching, but this pregnant body was not feeling that option.
So.. it pains me to say I had to swallow my pride & buy the can.
BUT when I do come across the pumpkin/squash I need I will be trying either one of these
recipes here at Pickyourown or here at The Gracious Pantry.
PickYourOwn tells you what kind of pumpkin you need & how to prepare it.
The Gracious Pantry explains how to make a clean-eating version, which I would love to try!
Since I just used the recipe from the Libby’s pumpkin can, what I will share
with you is the recipe for the crust I used from SmittenKitchen.
She goes through each step for making the dough & provides pictures of everything.
Which is very helpful if you are visual like me (:
Here’s how the pie turned out:
Well, I do need more practice with the crust because Lord knows I am no baker.. but I was actually surprised at how well it turned out. So there’s hope if you’re not a baker either!
If I can do it, trust me you can do it too!
One tip I learned is to cover the pie crust with foil so it doesn’t burn.
I was skeptical but it actually worked, hooray!
Now go bake yourselves a pumpkin pie or 2 & get that Fall smell in your kitchen!
Happy baking everyone! (:
